To send a child to Summer Camp, it costs: $30 a dayOR $150 a weekOR $1350 for the Entire Summer We cannot do this without your help!
The end of another school year is quickly approaching. In the 2,500 classrooms that span the public schools across our community, the conversations of most children are beginning to include the question, “What are you going to do this summer?” Thankfully, many of our children will have a plethora of choices for their eight-week break from the classroom. Those options include cross-country trips to see relatives in other states, vacations to the coast or mountains, joining sports teams, or a residential summer camp. These experiences enrich the lives of children, help them become better rounded citizens, while making lifetime memories.
Unfortunately, for hundreds of children in our community that are trapped in poverty who may happen to live in a neighborhood with high crime rates or one of the many local motels which have been converted to house our homeless population, being out of school is far from a pleasurable experience.
For many children, raised in poverty, school is their safe place where meals are provided. School means they have caring adults to supervise them and make sure they have opportunities to learn and play safely. When schools are closed, life for many of these marginalized children takes on a different meaning. Some are even left alone to fend for themselves all summer, including meals. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Piedmont (BGCP) is here to stand in the gap for local children who need and deserve a great summer experience. BGCP Summer Camp 2025 operates daily from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM from June 2nd through August 1st. All children receive breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. Children are provided reading and math tutorial sessions to address summer learning loss. They are given the opportunity to participate in visual and performing arts, technology camp, STEM lessons, and more. Students have options that include board games, intermural sports, or working in our vegetable garden.
Swimming lessons at the local YMCA and nature walks at the city’s parks are also options. The most exciting days of BGCP summer camp are field trip days. These trips include outings to Lake Norman State Park, The Catawba Science Center, Rescue Ranch, The Sullenberger Aviation Museum, and many other exciting locations. For some children, these outings will be the only chance they have of traveling outside our city for the entire summer. BGCP strives to provide a safe and fun experience for hundreds of children in our community that need our help most. However, we cannot do this alone. We need your help this year, more than ever, to accomplish this mission. The cost to send one child to camp is $30 per day, $150 per week or $1,350 for the entire summer.
